F.A.Q

Your soaps are natural, what does that mean?

At Good Girl | Good Boy, we use 100% natural ingredients in all of our recipes. There are no synthetic stuff or bad chemicals in our soaps. We use natural and certified organic oils and butters including: cold pressed olive oil, unrefined shea butter, coconut oil, sunflower oil, hemp oil from Canada, kokum butter, avocado oil, pumpkin seed oil, babassu oil and essential oils.

Each ingredient has been carefully selected for its moisturizing and cleansing properties as well as the desired functionality, and this in respect of the health of your beloved pet and the specific needs of the canine clientele. We attach importance to the research and development of responsible and healthy products.

Why should we use a bar soap?

Most all liquid shampoos are detergents made of water, foaming agents (SLS), dyes, petrochemical ingredients, mineral oil, propylene glycol, synthetic surfactants (Cocamide-MEA), fragrances or perfumes and preservatives that are not good for your dog. See 20 Ingredients You don't want In Your Dog's Shampoo! by Melissa Boland.

Our soap bars contain only ingredients that add value and quality to the product, while minimizing risks to the health of your dog. They are biodegradable, safe for the environment and for your dog. Yes you can wash your dog in a river! Many of the ingredients we use are suitable for human consumption. Your dog will be easy to wash, rinse, and if he licks during washing, nothing to worry about there. Our soaps are designed in compliance with the health and the interest of your favorite companion, with transparency and without marketing falsehoods.

Are your soaps effective?

Our soaps perform so well! Their main function is to wash without drying the sensitive skin of your dog. Since they are moisturizing, you don’t need to use a conditioner. You can choose between an antibacterial soap, one for bad odors, a calming soap and now a soothing soap for sensitive skin and noses that contains no essential oils (this one could also be used on cats and horses).

We have carefully selected ingredients proven for their efficacy and according to the choices and the guidelines that we have set for ourselves. These choices are to offer you quality products that stem from solid and continuous research and development, and a partnership with Bulles et Molécules, reputed for the quality and effectiveness of it's products since 2009.  We are proud to have developed high end products designed specifically for your dog's needs.

Why don't you use lavender or tea tree essential oils?

Lavender and tea tree products are indeed popular and are not all bad for humans and for dogs. But, according to some serious research, there are essential oils, like cedarwood and niaouli, that have a lower level of toxicity. We opted for theses oil instead.

Why don't you use cocoa butter in your soaps?

Cocoa butter is obtained by pressing the cacao tree nuts (Theobroma Cacao). As this ingredient is the basis for the making of chocolate, and that chocolate is toxic to dogs (theobromine), we decided not to use it. The virtues and qualities of cocoa butter make it an excellent choice in formulating cosmetics for humans, but not for canine customers.

Are essential oils harmful to dogs?

The majority of essential oils are harmful to dogs. We only work with therapeutic grade essential oils that are low in toxicity and recognized safe for dogs such as chamomile, ginger, cedarwood, niaouli, palmarosa and copaiba balsam.

In soap, essential oils are obviously diluted in an oil base and the dosage is adjusted in connection with the canine clientele. We must not forget that the dog has a highly developed sense of smell and does not tolerate strong fragrances well.

Avoid their use in pregnant dogs or puppies in infancy. Also avoid to apply to eyes and mouth.

Are your soaps hypoallergenic?

According to the Health Canada website: A product with the indication "hypoallergenic" may still cause allergic reactions. This term simply means that the product is less likely to cause allergic reactions (Source: https://www.canada.ca/en/sante-canada/services/cosmetiques/produits-cosmetiques-et-securite.html).

According to this definition, our products are therefore hypoallergenic but we do not emphasize this term to advertise our products. We place an emphasis on research and we are committed to offering you the best. We rely on the quality and added value of the selected ingredients as well as a judicious choice of safe, functional and effective essential oils for dogs. No false advertising!

Are your products tested on animals?

Of course not! We love dogs too much! In fact, we conduct thorough research on the properties of the ingredients, and we make sure that our suppliers provide us with certificates of analysis, MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) and information on the quality control of the ingredients.

We use a specialized software to formulate the soaps, and in addition, we benefit from the expertise and know-how of Bulles et Molecules. This way, we can preview the properties and qualities of the soaps even before they are made. Then, we make the products in accordance with professional standards and we test them on ourselves, not to mention on our friends who are happy volunteers!

Do you donate to dogs in need?
